The RFTEN project, an NCATE initiative, was launched in 2003 with a grant from the U.S. Department of Education (ED). Through its partnership with ED and 38-accredited minority-serving institutions, RFTEN is training teacher educators and candidates to teach reading using research-based strategies. The ultimate goal of the project is to improve P-12 achievement in reading.
Timothy Shanahan, Ph.D., president of the International Reading Association and Mary P. Abouzeid, Ph.D., a professor and director of Reading First Professional Development at the University of Virginia, are among the featured presenters for the live webconference. Instructors for the webconference are Shannon Amiotte, M.S. Ed., a National Board Certified Teacher and a professor at Oglala Lakota College in Kyle, SD; and Erica Simon, M.Ed., reading expert and educational consultant. The webcast will be broadcast from Norfolk State University, School of Education, Bozeman Building.
